June 24 is the Feast of St. John, the patron saint of Florence. On the day there are many planned events to mark the event. It starts with a fabulous historic parade: with historic figures, flag bearers, drummers, and costumed ladies and knights through the streets of Florence. In addition to the costume parade there is also a special competition on the Arno with a race between the rowing clubs.
Then there is the final Historic Florentine Soccer, a game like no other, which takes place in Piazza Santa Croce (as we already told you).
Finally, the peak event is at 10 pm with fireworks “shot” from Piazzale Michelangelo. The people of Florence flock along the river or on the terraces of friends and family to watch the fireworks show, which is more and more beautiful every year.
For several years running, the Grand Hotel Minerva has been opening its terrace to let visitors enjoy fireworks from a fabulous vantage point! The evening includes a gourmet dinner, specially created by our chef, to make the evening even more tantalizing.
Given the limited capacity of the terrace, we strongly suggest booking a table well in advance!
