EMILIO GRECO: SACRED AND PROFANE
The centenary of the Greco’s birth celebrated in London, Rome and Catania

Marking the centenary of the birth of the great sculptor Emilio Greco (Catania October 11, 1913 – Rome, April 5, 1995) London, Rome and Catania are paying homage to him with the exhibition “Emilio Greco: Sacred and Profane“.

Grand Hotel Minerva has a special connection to the Catania-born artist because the eminent architect, Carlo Scarpa, when he redesigned our Hotel in the sixties, chose to place a magnificent Greco statue, “Large Bather VI”, right in our Hotel’s garden. Over the years, the statue has become one of our Hotel’s finest features, admired every day by hundreds of tourists and locals.

This is why the Hotel is very proud to participate in this important commemoration by loaning the statue to the Rome exhibition.

Through January 10, 2014, “our” Large Bather can be admired, along with other monumental sculptures and a selection of about thirty drawings, in Palazzo Braschi’s eighteenth-century courtyard in Rome.
