The year 2014 has just gotten on its way and Florence is already getting all gussied up for the year’s most fashion-conscious event, the Pitti Immagine show. In its 85th edition, Pitti presents the best of men’s collections, previews, and women’s capsule collections. To find out what will be in fashion next season, come on over and feast your eyes!
Thousands of companies and accredited buyers come in from all around the world, making Florence a glittery cosmopolitan city for three days. It feels almost like living in London or New York. A hop and a skip from our hotel, at the Fortezza da Basso and at the Dogana, the best of Italian and international fashion makes a date to take a gander next fall/winter’s trends.
Great expectations for the men’s collection n. 21 by Alessandro dell’Acqua “Pretty But Strange” that declares its intention to fuse classic and eccentric styles.
Pitti Immagine gives us a chance to admire famous (or emerging) fashion designers showing their previews, some through new collaborations. This is true of Pony (= Product of New York) sneakers, a company founded in 1972 and given new breath here through the artistic work of Sam Lambert and Shaka Maidoh.
This year’s theme is rock music, which will be part of the installations and the stands.

Ukraine is the star country of Pitti this year, with a team of young designers ready to challenge and surprise the fashion world of the West with their creativity.
Prominent participants who mustn’t escape mention include Chiara Boni for Pitti W and Andreas Melbostad, Creative Director of Diesel Black Gold, the prime players of two major events/fashion shows.
Why is Pitti Uomo such an important event? On Pitti Immagine’s site, the director of Men’s Health Germany, explains, “Pitti Uomo is major for many reasons. The picturesque, historic setting of the Fortezza and the show’s contents alike are spectacular. Having so many brands in a single place is very convenient for visitors. No wasting time. You don’t have to go from one part of the city to the other….then there’s the magic of Italian and Tuscan cuisine, which has to be an added plus!“
Another high point of Pitti are the fabulous parties with exclusive invitations, scattered throughout Florence, like the one on Wednesday, January 8 put on by Peuterey at the Pagliere (Scuderie Reali di Porta Romana).
