Pitti Uomo 89

January is fashion month for Florence as three days of Pitti Uomo make it a vibrant stage for the 2016/2017 Fall/Winter menswear collections. Buyers, photographers, models, fashion bloggers, and opinion leaders converge on Florence and make their mark on a merry-go-round of events — inside and out of the event center of Fortezza da Basso.

This 89th Pitti Uomo’s theme is PITTI GENERATION(S), about the coexistence of different generations in today’s fashions and styles. These days, your age is more a matter of mindset than a date on your ID and new styles and trends are flourishing and even mature men wear jeans and T-shirts. Oliviero Baldini’s set design grabs attention in the Fortezza’s central courtyard, where so many eyes are trained on the public.

This year’s amazing numbers prove that Florence is the capital of men’s fashion! Over 1,200 brands and designers cover 60,000 sq.m. exhibition space, organized in several sections:

  • L’Altro Uomo — The realm of avant-garde styling
  • Born in the USA — Some of the most vital brands from the States
  • Unconventional — With underground luxury
  • I Play – For sportswear

And then we have Generation Africa for talents made in Africa, and Pitti Italics, for new generations of Italian talent, backed by none other than the Palazzo Pitti Foundation.


What’s more, in 2015, Italian menswear (meaning everything from outerwear, knitwear, shirts, ties to leather clothing) produced 9 billion euros of revenue (up 1.8% from the previous year). Exports are booming with the American market growing by 16%.

In an interesting partnership, MINI brought six fashion designers to the fair chosen Pitti Immagine, Vogue Uomo, and GQ Italia, for The Latest Fashion Buzz.


24,000 buyers from around the world for over 35,000 visitors.

Fashion shows in historical Florentine palazzi, new exclusive collections, and celebrities spotted at parties.

Plus two superguests: Korean designer Juun.J, showing at Stazione Leopolda, and Marco de Vincenzo, at the renovated Teatro Niccolini by Piazza Duomo.
