We’re on the brink of the huge men’s fashion event that takes place in Florence twice a year. Pitti Uomo. This year is a special edition, marking the 60th anniversary of the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana.
Joining forces with the Italian Ministry of Economic Development and ICE, Pitti Immagine is planning a host of events, including outside of Pitti’s usual setting, the Fortezza da Basso, bringing all of Florence in on the action.
Most interestingly, the project brings in four of the world’s greatest designers born in Florence for the Firenze Hometown of Fashion event. One might say that fashion was born in Florence in the 1950s with the first fashion shows in Palazzo Pitti, and so tribute is being paid to four world-renowned Florentine fashion designers, Gucci, Ermanno Scervino, Emilio Pucci and Salvatore Ferragamo.
If you’ve been paying attention you’ll have noticed as you walk past the Baptistry that it is donning unusual colors these days, colors in tune with Pucci style. “Monumental Pucci” was inspired by the historic scarf called Battistero designed by Marchese Emilio Pucci in 1957. For your viewing pleasure: a Baptistry in technicolor.
On June 17 Gucci is opening up its museum in Piazza Signoria with a “Gucci Museo Open Day” followed by a cocktail party (by invitation) and projections on the historic building’s facade in the evening.
Meanwhile, Ferragamo is opening the new exhibition “Equilibrium”, while Scervino is toasting Florence from its finest terrace on Forte Belvedere with an ultra-exclusive party.
The excitement doesn’t end there. On June 16 at 7:00 pm Andrea Bocelli will be performing in Florence with the Cameristi del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino at the new Florence Opera House.
At the concert’s end, the famous tenor himself will head to Ponte Vecchio to unveil the Ponte Vecchio’s magnificent new lighting sponsored by the designer Stefano Ricci, followed by an amazing aquatic show on the Arno by the French artists Ilotopie.
Another not-to-be-missed event is the Notte dei Modivori (Night of the Fashionivores), an all-night event all about the fashion world with films and clips, with a plethora of never-before-seen material about the history of this fascinating world. At the Odeon Cinema on June 17.
And, needless to say, there are all the events within the exhibition, including fashion shows, presentations and openings.
This year’s guest country is South Korea.
